Selling a home? Check out our free home value report
One of the most common questions we get around this time of year is “Is it even possible to get my home sold in the winter?” It absolutely is; in fact, January and December are usually two of our best months of the year.
The thing about the buyers on the market during the winter months is that they are very serious about buying. In the summer, you will have those people who just want to go out and look at homes, and aren’t really serious about buying. You don’t have those buyers in the winter, because it’s cold and dark.
If we look statistically, the average days a home is on the market doesn’t really alter from the rest of the seasons, it typically stays the same. However, the supply and demand adjust. So, when people say that the spring is a great time to sell, they aren’t wrong. It is a good time to sell, but you have those non-serious buyers and a lot more competition against other homes.
In the winter, you don't have that kind of competition. That can work to your advantage. So can the fact that most people keep their homes cleaner around this time, especially during the holidays.
